Reset for Checking for Update Spin Cycle Issue Not Fixing Problem

I have a Series 2 Apple Watch and recently attempted to update from my phone to the new Watch OS. My iPhone is currently running the most recent OS, but when I attempt to update from the iPhone, it goes into the "checking for update" spin and asks if I want to try again or start over. I have been trying for 2 hours to unpair, restart both my iPhone and watch to no avail. Is there a specific sequence of procedures that can be done to get out of this vicious cycle where I can actually use my watch again? Currently, it will not let me use it as it says to complete the update on the iPhone which continues to get stuck in the update spin cycle as soon as I pair the two of them.

Reset your Watch by pressing in the crown and side button until you see the Apple logo, then release both.
