Transfer photos from iOS13 to PC

How can you transfer photos from iOS13 to PC without iTunes? This used to work nicely before iOS13. Now the instructions seem to require the use of iTunes. iTunes has always been a problem as it wants to take ownership of every device plugged into it. I can't do that. I need to be able to download photos from someone else's iPhone and not have iTunes take ownership of that phone or attach that phone to my appleid. Previously, we could plug it into a pc and copy normally as you would with any device. Now, many of the pictures come down with 0 or partial bytes and are unusable.

It does not require iTunes. You connect the iPhone to the computer. Since you state in another post that you are using Windows 10, the problem is amplified there. How Windows imports photos from devices now has gotten more complicated. You need to open Photos in Windows 10 before connecting the iPhone. Then connect the cable to the iPhone, but not the computer. Unlock the phone and make sure it remains unlocked while you plug the cable into the computer. You should have iTunes downloaded and installed on the computer to ensure that Windows 10 has the correct drivers for your iPhone. Photos should recognize that you have connected a device with photos, and ask about importing photos from a USB device. Also, if you have not connected the iPhone to the computer before, you should also receive a dialog box about trusting the computer and iPhone. You can get your photos from there.


To address your statement about iTunes taking control, you need to make sure that you have turned off the setting to allow for iTunes to automatically sync devices that are connected. That is done on in Edit>Preferences.
