Random files in my Trash

I bought a brand new iMac last week and have been meticulously emptying trash every day, keeping the whole machine clean. However this morning, the trash has a load of files in there, presentations, pdfs etc which are not made by me. It's as if the mac has been used before and has old files lying around. So confused. Anyone ever experience this?

Mac Virus? I recently noticed that in the past 24 hours all of the files from my desktop and documents folders in Finder were completely deleted. I did not do anything to move them or delete them and they are not in the trash bin. I was wondering if a virus would cause this and if I need to wipe my hard drive? All of the files are backed up on my cloud so I haven't lost them but I don't want this to keep happening.

Weird files in trash that won't delete All of a sudden I have 5 files in my trash that won't delete because they say they are in use. The are named: c7 s1 s7 test vh I have no idea where they came from. How can I get the trash to empty them? I'm on an iMac running Big Sur 11.0.1

Urgent help with deleted files. I deleted some files recently from downloads and the next day I was told that I deleted 1900 files from my work shared drive. The files are showing in my Recents |(some dating back to way before I joined the organisation) but are not in my Mac's bin. I did not open the files in question however, as mentioned earlier, I did select all files from downloads and then deleted them. The company has sent me the list of files; some belong to me and some to others. I was having issues with my Mac on the day files were deleted and it was blinking/glitching (the screen would move to the right and come back). It has stopped since. The deleted files were all deleted at the same time 10:26/27 with a few seconds difference. My questions are: Could it be hacking? Can a deleted file show in recent even if it wasn't opened? How does Recents on Mac work? How can the above happen? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Answered it myself. Staff member had used a memory stick. It has cleared the files from that to my trash.
