I am trying to transfer my iPhoto pics from my old apple desktop computer to my new MacBook Pro laptap. It says iPhoto isn't supported in this version of macOS. How can I get my pics added to my photos on laptop?

You can transfer your iPhoto Library and use Photos to convert it to a Photos library.

Launch Photos with the option key held down. From the resulting dialog, choose your iPhoto Library. Photos will create a new library from your iPhoto media.
