How, I am to work in a imovie project between my macbook and my imac. Problem is that imac have imovie 10.1.10 whereas macbook has 10.1.12
I do not want to update both to the lates 10.1.13 because that means to also update the OS. My question is: can I update to 10.1.12 instead of to 10.1.13?

If you are running Mojave on both Macs you can update your iMovie to iMovie 10.1.13 on both Macs. You don't need to upgrade to Catalina.
If that is not your situation, what OS are you presently running on each computer?
