iMac is still on El Capitan 10 15 2. would like to upgrade to Catalina but system says I can

How do I upgrade iMac10.15.2 to Catalina? iMac running slow, so got Intego Security to clean up, but they want Mac on Catalina.

You can't run Catalina on a 2009 iMac. It doesn't have the hardware to support it.

If it's a Late 2009 iMac you should be able to upgrade to High Sierra.

Be aware upgrading won't fix the slowness issue.

Try running EtreCheck and post the report.
