My Apple TV was set up using my ex husbands Apple ID. How can I change this?

I’m trying to use the Apple TV app on my iPhone as I’ve lost the remote. However I can’t log into the Apple TV as it was set up using my ex’s Apple ID. Is there anyway to change this to my Apple ID so I can use the device?

You can reset the unit and set up again with your own credentials.

Depending on your model Apple TV, you may need a functional remote to do the initial setup and link the iPhone app. You could borrow one temporarily, or buy a replacement remote.
