Whenever I open a new tab on safari, it comes up as a blank page. I am on a laptop, is there any way for me to return my favorites and recently viewed back? Or at least fill that white space with a wallpaper? Please help, it is unsightly and very annoying.

I didn’t know that I could go to safari and then preferences. I have only tried system preferences, then general, but that doesn’t show anything about new tab. How do I go to safaris preferences?
