iPhone X disappears and reappears when attempting to import to Photos

When attempting to import photos from iPhone X to the Photos app on my MacBook Pro, my iPhone disappears and reappears from the sidebar so the iPhone is not recognized long enough to start the import process.

The iPhone is connected via cable to USB port, the iPhone is unlocked and I have successfully imported photos from this iPhone to this MacBook Pro previously.

I eventually was able to successfully import photos after rebooting both devices, unlocking the iPhone X, opening iTunes and/or Finder on the MacBook Pro so that it finally prompted me to "Trust" this computer. After authenticating I still could not import until I opened the Photos app on my iPhone which then caused the Photos app on the MacBook Pro to recognize the new photos on the iPhone eligible for import.

Hope this helps someone.
