Check if Do Not Disturb is on, the little moon symbol at the top near the clock. Either swipe up and tap the moon icon, or go to Settings>Do Not Disturb and see if it is enabled. If DND is not enabled, check Settings>Notifications>Messages and make sure notifications are enabled there. Hope this helps!
