Not being able to login with correct password

So, I happened to restart my macbook air because it was lagging a bit. But now I'm not being able to login back into my account. I'm entering the same password which I haven't changed in years but it's just not accepting it. I researched on the internet and found that many other users have also faced this problem with their macs. I tried to reset the password using recovery mode but it does not show my drive in the top box (check image below).

Please help me to resolve this as I don't want to lose my valuable data.

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.12
