can't update to catalina
I have been unable to update to Catalina. I have some sort of earlier security update that never manages to update. Perhaps this is in the way.

You do not say what exact Mac /model /year /size /retina /touchbar is this
or
what exact macOS you are currently running?
Typically you are always better off running the most current macOS your machine will allow—especially for the built in security features.
