Using external DAC but MacOS sound effects (e.g., mail) play through laptop speakers

Hi,

I have a weird problem using a DAC at work. All my sounds play through the DAC just fine, apart from mail/MacOS sound like empty trash which all play through my laptop speakers, which is just annoying in the office.

I'm running the latest iteration of MacOS, any idea how I fix this?

Check System Preferences > Sound > Sounds Effects and make sure "Play sound effects through:" is set to your DAC.
