Yesterday I lost emails from the past two years or more. They are not in the trash. How can I retrieve them?

Thanks for your reply. The GIF is moving too quickly for me to follow. I did go to settings however I can’t find the sync setting. The most recent IOS update is 12.4.4. Could that be the issue. It’s an iPhone 6.
