Apple watch will not go into reset mode?

I forgot my password for my Apple watch and i'm trying to reset it by holding the side button and selecting "Erase all content" and the Apple watch will start attempting to erase, but then it will come right back to the password screen.

Is there an issue going on with these? Help please!
