Verifying debit cards for Apple Pay

When I loaded the new debit card I did call the bank they verified it but now Apple says that they want verification and some kind of code but I was told that you can do it without talking to the bank and I’d like to have some more information about that in in the in the in the wall it has the new debit card so I don’t I don’t understand the conflict thank you Jeanne

that is a two factor verification code. You do not have to contact the bank it is done electronically - Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support
