MacBook Pro does not see my new SuperDrive. Help

I have an older MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inch, Mid 2014) running Catalina. Today I received a new SuperDrive CD/DVD and I cannot get my Mac to "see" it. I've tried restarts without success.

With the DVD plugged in try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
