When I open Safari settings under General, the fields where I can set a specific home page are dimmed and I cannot change the home page. It is currently set to Google search engine page. It's like I'm locked out of Safari settings.

Check System Preferences/Profiles and delete any you don’t recognize.

thanks, I did have unknown profiles in my settings. Got rid of them and now all is ok.
