How do I get Apple TV+ Programming on my old Apple TV streaming box? Is it possible?

I had a lot of trouble with this, but the information zmclearan provided encouraged me to persist. I had to run a complete restore; apparently the pushed update wasn’t completely effective, as I could not see the Apple TV app on the home screen. After the restoration, the Apple TV app was there, but I was not able to log into my pre-existing Hulu account until I restarted the Apple TV again.
I am surprised there is so little documentation of the upgrade to the series 3 boxes on the internet.
