Transferring photos

How do you transfer your photos from your iPhone to your pc?

I used to be able to do this no problem, now after the latest update my phone doesn’t connect to the pc properly, I keep getting an error -54

See this, Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support and where are you seeing this error? On the iPhone, in iTunes, on the computer? What version of Windows do you have?
