Safari and Mail freeze on loading new web pages/mail after waking from sleep
Frequently the following happens to me: I wake my MacBook Pro (latest version) from sleep. I try to go to a new web page in Safari or check for new messages in Mail. Both apps freeze - the Safari progress bar stops at about 10 percent, and mail keep saying "Downloading messages." The odd thing is this: other mail/web apps such as Firefox, Thunderbird, or Opera continue to load web or mail content with no problem. The only way out is to reboot the computer. When I try to reboot from the Apple menu the computer freezes with a blank desktop picture, forcing me to manually shut off the laptop and restart.
So far I have tried clearing the Safari and Mail caches, resetting Safari to its default values, clearing all app caches, resetting SMC and PRAM. Nothing works.
I'm running the latest version of Catalina. The MacBook is connected to the internet via Ethernet and WiFi. Background apps include Avast anti virus, 1Password, and Parallels Tools.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
