macbook pro 16 heating fast

Hi,

I bought a new MacBook Pro 16 (i9 base model) but device easily heat up even under regular conditions.

For example: I was using safari, and another app is downloading some document and steam downloading a game. Then MacBook heating very fast, especially touchbar area. Same thing happen in different scenarios, I am a game developer and when I enter play mode in Unity(in a very small project) or when I start a game(not very demanding) heat is increasing very fast.

Is it normal, should I return this device, or is there any solution for that.

Thanks for your help

This is normal behavior. The fans exhausts at the back of the laptop and the heatsink is located near the back center of the laptop and also beneath the Touchbar area so of course these particular areas will be the hottest. These laptops have very powerful CPUs which get very hot and the Mac laptops are very thin so removing heat is difficult. If the fans run at top speed and the laptop gets to a critical temperature the CPU will become throttled to help lower the system temperature.

FYI, web browsing is no longer a "simple" thing. Webpages are full of code running on your system --- some pages more than others.

You can always run the Apple Diagnostics to make sure the fans and sensors are all operating correctly.

If you are still concerned, then you can take your laptop to an Apple Store or an AASP to be examined.

Well certainly not normal, however is it hardware or software issue...

If you think this is a hardware issue, or in doubt:

You have a limited 14-days to return a new purchase for a full refund or exchange— after that, it will fall under a warranty repair.

To get a good look at your System config. for conflicts or issues, you can run this trusted utility http://etrecheck.com

If you need help interpreting the report you can post it here in its entirety in the "Additional Text" box in the editing toolbar below, in your reply.

You can set its preference to "Allow full Disk Access", with this you get a digest of issues from the last 7 days that are saved in your system.

This is not "normal behavior" at all. Such a modern machine should be able to handle webpages easily without heating up and I don't know why that guy is saying otherwise.

If you're using an external monitor it's probably the overheating bug with no solution from apple so far.

I mis-spoke and should have said it "may" be normal. Apple is walking a tightrope with these laptops to make them work without actually overheating and crashing. The newer Apple laptops do run much hotter than older Macs and other brand laptops. As I mentioned in my previous post, if a user still feels there is an issue or wants peace of mind they can take their laptop to Apple to be examined.

Also @leroydouglas added some assistance to look for other software issues which may be contributing to the heat issue. I do sometimes forget that people tend to get malware or clutter up their systems with unnecessary software. Thanks @leroydouglas.

Which applications are you using because it does matter. Sounds like all your apps are using the dGPU. I would think you being a game developer that you would be used to laptops with higher-grade GPU's to cause a lot of heat, because they do. But it really depends on the software or any little plugins you have installed.
