how to remove phone number from device

I don't want to remove device, just the phone number since I now use an old iphone like an ipod

Remove the SIM card. Log out of Messages/FaceTime. Then log into your Apple ID using the link below and remove the phone number from your Apple ID. Allow up to 24 hours for the change to sync. Sign into Messages/FaceTime.
