Can I Return to inbox after deleting an e-mail, not open the next email?

When I delete or archive an e-mail I am reading, the next thing I see is the next e-mail in my inbox. I want to return to the inbox, not to another e-mail. How can I change this setting? Hopefully what I am saying makes sense, and hopefully someone has a solution. It really annoys.

No, if you delete an email it will open the next one. If you don’t want to do that don’t delete the email; go back to the Inbox, then swipe the message you want to delete. Or, if there are a bunch you want to delete, wait until you are finished reading messages, then use bulk delete.
