I recently purchased a refurbished iPad .. apple gave me a subscription trial to try out apple tv.
how do i and where do i add this subscription on my apple tv or iTunes?
When i try to log in through my apple tv icon on my computer it says i have to try a one week free trial first.

You should look for the Free year in the TV App on the iPad. If it doesn't appear directly, scroll down to the TV+ channel, and it should be in there.
