Search is nowhere to be found

I have a 7th generation ipad and in previous versions have been able to swipe down from the top center to get a search box. There is no way to do that on this ipad. Any ideas how to get a search box so that I can find an app by a type search etc.?

TIA

If you put your finger in the center of the screen, you don't get the search bar? That's exactly how to do it. Not from the top, sides or bottom. Just flick down briefly from the exact middle of the screen.

I just realised,

This works the exact same in iOS 10.3.3 as it does in iPadOS.

My 2015/2016 iPad Pro is still, currently, running iOS 10.3.3.

You swipe down from the top edge of the iPad's screen to bring down Notiifucations center.

If I put my finger at the center of my iPad Pro’s screen and swipe downward, the iOS search bar AND Siri Suggestions appear.
