Apple TV+ free year

I just bought a MacBook Pro. Apple says I can get a free year of Apple TV+.

So do I have this correct? I get a free year to watch the 'Watch Now' content, but if I want to watch a movie or TV show I have to pay for it?

The subscription only covers Apple-original content.
