Incorrect Serial number

I have cut and pasted my serial number from "About this Mac" to seek Apple support but error message - wrong product. What to do?

The serial number is also somewhere on the surface of your Mac, depending on model. See this support topic:

The serial number may be different than what is reported in About this Mac, if the motherboard was replaced.
