I am trying to reset the password on my nieces old iPhone... she has given me her apple ID and passcode but it keeps saying her account is locked up... I want to reset the phone to factory settings but I cannot... how else can I do this without her password? the phone is an iPhone6.

You need her password before resetting the phone.
See if this works. Enter the Apple (iCloud) ID and click Forgot Password.
