updating an app

I've got an app on my iPhone which the app store tells me I've got to update it, when I click on update, the app starts to update, which it almost completes, then I get the following message, can anyone tell me what it means? Even though the app seems to have updated ok, the app store is still telling me I've got to update it, & I can't delete the exclamation mark in the red circle.
