Connecting MacBook Pro 2019 16" with Apple Cinema Display 23''

I have a new MacBook Pro 2019 16''. And I have an Apple Cinema Display 23" with DVI connection.

I have already tried three USB-C to DVI adapters and none worked:

1. Delock (USB-Type-C male -> DVI 24+5 female), Problem: Ghosting

2. LMP USB-C to DVI, I don't have exact details anymore, because I already sent it back, Problem: flickering, Display goes on and off and on and off....

3. equip USB C to DVI-I seem also not work, I read in a review for this product, Problem: Ghosting

And by the way, the Display works perfectly fine with my old MacBook Pro with a MiniDisplayport to DVI adapter.

Does anyone know an adapter that actually works? It should exist, right? Any help would be appreciated a lot.

If anyone is interested, I have at last found a working solution for at least my exact constellation.

I already had this part here: https://lmp-adapter.com/product/lmp-usb-c-mini-dock/

Now I just needed this adapter: https://www.apple.com/ch-de/shop/product/MJVU2ZM/A/apple-hdmi-auf-dvi-adapter

Now it works. So DVI to HDMI and then from HDMI to USB-C seems to work in this exact constellation.

Nobody at Apple support (several attempts) knew about it, and authorized vendors didn't either. A very small local Apple supporter finally knew the solution.

I hope this helps others as well.

Hi Malcom.

Thank you very much for the advice!

Wow, another 150$ to spend for my new MacBook?!

Before I do that, I would like to share some of my research:

If my more local dealer is not mistaken, the LMP adapter I tested should also be active, but didn't work:

https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/producttype/notebook-adapters-2057?opt=t247639&pdo=20-12135%3A239567%7C20-12136%3A7963&tagIds=614-653

Then to go on, some people claim that the following adapter works, others say it doesn't work (sorry, the comments are in German):

https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/ratings/club-3d-active-usb-31-typ-c-to-dvi-10cm-notebook-adapters-5733925#rating

One of them who claims that the above Club 3d doesn't work, suggests that this one works:

https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/equip-usb-c-dvi-i-dvi-15cm-notebook-adapters-10143650

But of course someone here claims again that this one does also not work.

It is a bit confusing.

It is a bit frustrating that Apple is not willing to suggest an adapter to connect two Apple products that actually works. I was on the phone with several Apple people, nobody could point me in the right direction.

Before I order the 150 Dollar adapter, that "may help", maybe somebody knows actually an adapter that works?

Thanks a lot!

The abovementioned Club 3D is also not working. Display switches on and off and on and off.....

https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/club-3d-active-usb-31-typ-c-to-dvi-10cm-notebook-adapters-5733925?supplier=406802

So the question remains, which indispensable feature would make an adapter actually work. Being active seems not to be sufficent.

Anyone?
