It is possible that your home router is blocking traffic to some internet resources. A restart of your home router may be beneficial.

To restart you router, disconnect power from the router, then wait at least 30 seconds before resting the router. After you router reboot, which may take many minutes, force-restart your iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On an iPad with Face ID: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

If your device is Activation Locked, this help page will provide most of the information that you’ll need:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201365

If you have forgotten your AppleID or associated password, these can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

More information about recovery of your AppleID:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201354

More information about recovery of your AppleID password:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201487

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

Thank you for the links. I have gone through the Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch doc.

But I'm still stuck.

I am able to re-install the device to factory defaults and the iOS version is now upgraded too 12.4.6. But as soon as it activates is comes back with the error Unable to Activate... server is temporarily unavailable. If I log into iCloud and go to my devices, there is no devices listed there from before.

For some unknown reason, It will not activate.

Please any help would be appreciated.

I have reset my router as requested. Did a factory reset and selected setup iPad as new. As soon as it tries to activate I get the same error "activation server temporarily unavailable. Even if connected to my MacBook Pro it says activating but nothing happens on the iPad. Under Finder it gives me the iPads details under General.

I have also tried a different router but no joy. Any other suggestions?

If there is a email maybe I can send screen shots to assist?
