Mac won’t boot after login

my MacBook won't complete the login sequence, it allows me to enter my passcode and starts to load but then the indicator bar gets about half through the process then freezes. I tried the Disc resets and tried to reinstall but I don’t have enough space to re-download it and can’t login in to make space. How do I either make space without logging in or get in without redownloading it. Or am I just screwed?

MacBook Pro 13", OS X 10.10

What is the exact model of your laptop and what version of macOS are you using? You can get the exact model by entering your serial number here or here.

Try booting into Safe Mode.

Do you have a system backup? If so, then just boot into Recovery Mode and erase the physical drive and restore from the backup.

If you need to recover data from the drive, then you can boot into Recovery Mode and install macOS to an external drive. Then boot from the external drive to free up space. Or you can put this computer into Target Disk Mode to connect it to another Mac. Otherwise to free up space you will need to do so using the command line from Recovery Mode. The command line is difficult and very easy to make a mistake and delete everything if you are not familiar with using it (even if you are it is easy to make a mistake).
