Upgrading from OS X 10.9.5

I have a MAC Desktop (27") and Laptop. Both operate with the OS X 10.9.5 system. I am now trying to use software that won't operate on anything below OS X 10.10. Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which Mac models you have, download El Capitan, High Sierra, or Catalina. A definitive answer would require knowing what models they are; this can be done by supplying the year or looking for a code similar to iMac#,#.
