Finder crashes when opening a file from app or copy file

Hello.

I'm experiencing an issue.

When I open a file from an app (such as Atom, or Gmail when I try to attach something, or Illustrator) or try to copy a file from a folder to another, the Finder crashes. I usually have to wait for about 15 minutes to defreeze; then it works as expected. Other times I try to force quit the Finder, but If I then try again, it crashes trying to perform the same operations.

I think that the problem showed up with Catalina (no minor version in specific).

I would try to fix it someway; I already try with Onyx, but no luck. Disk seems to be fine.

What else could I try?

Thanks to everyone.

Log into another user account, Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac and see if the problem persists (this tells us if the problem is limited to your user account or is system wide).

Boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.

Hello,

Let's start with this...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

If that doesn't help...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

HelloBDAqua,

I'm really sorry for the late response, have had some issues.

Here is the report generated by Etrecheck: https://pastebin.com/Q3snGPJN

Yesterday I installed the upgrade to 10.15.4: this made things worse. Now every time I log in the finder is unresponsive and had to wait up to 1 hour to unblock it.

Thank you so much for your time and expertise.

I'm a bit shocked that you don't have a backup.

I don't see the problem on that report, which bothers me & makes me worry about some impending hardware failure.

You are running a lot of software for only 8GB of RAM & a fusion drive.

I'd recommend getting a backup drive asap, & add 2 16GB Ram Sticks...

Hello BDAqua,

thanks for your precious insights.

Yes, unfortunately I had to remove the backup hdd due to its break. I'm getting a new one.

Do you think that reinstalling the OS would make any improvement?

The iMac has barely 1 year of life, it's still in warranty.

If you think that the OS reinstall wouldn't make any change, I will send it to support.

Thanks again for your time, you're very kind.
