Some pictures that are in my iPhone can not be imported in my Photo library on Mac.

What system versions are you running on your two devices and what Photos version do you have?

Are the photos that can't be imported the HEIC format?

Can you see the photos with Image Capture and download them to a folder on the Desktop? If so then try to import into the library from there.

On your Mac download and run Etrecheck. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Add Text button to include the report in your reply. How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report

IMPORTANT:

Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the app's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:

ALSO IMPORTANT:

Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine the root of the problem.

This is the situation:

iPhone Xr

SW 13.4

iMac Retina 4k, 21.5 Late 2015

16Gb 1867Mhz DDR3

Intel IRIS pro graphics 6200

macOS Catalina 10.15.4

maybe the picture not imported are not HEIC but I expected a feedback from my system like "pictures not imported" or similar but nothing happens.

Today I tried to upload videos in iMovie and it was worse. iMovie crashed 5 times.

Now I try to import picture and videos using Image Capture

It is the first time I encounter this kind of problem; could it be depending by the late version of Catalina installed last week?

Thanks

Thanks for your help.

I used Image Capture to import files from my iPhone starting with MOV and MP4 so I have freed up space in my iPhone.

Then I started importing pictures (HEIC, Jpeg, png ...); Image capture cannot import some of them. They are pictures received via Whatsapp. All the pictures imported by Image Capture are imported by Photo so I solve all my problems.

I will use this strategy in the future.

Moreover using Image Capture is easier to decide which file delete in my iPhone.
