We've purchased 50GB for £0.79, does this allow me to download more apps to my phone?

We originally had 16GB and now I have 50GB and it isn't still allowing any apps to be downloaded.

iPhone 6s, iOS 11

Buying more iCloud storage doesn't increase the amount of storage on the phone but it may be able to help free up some space on the phone. See: About storage on your device and in iCloud - Apple Support

including the following from that link:

Free up space on your device

You can make storage space available on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when you

use iCloud Photos and turn on Optimize Storage Or you can remove content from your apps—like photos, music, and Podcasts—or delete the apps that you're not using.
