Anyone know why my watch only counts exercise I do outside

Anyone know why my watch only counts exercise I do outside but when I do a walk on my treadmill it only counts a minute worth of exercise? Thanks

When you do an indoor walk the accelerometer in the watch measures your distance, when you're outside walking the GPS measures your distance. Are you doing "exercise" or a "workout".
