whatsapp not working when not open

My whatsapp works only if its open. Neither I get any notification. I get the messages only after I open the application. Please help

Do you see WhatsApp under Settings > Notifications ?

Delete the app and re-install. (Ensure you have your chats backed up on iCloud before deleting)
