Magic Keyboard (iPad Pro) - intermittently charging?

I have a 11" iPad Pro (2018) and a Magic Keyboard. When I connect a USB-C cable directly to the iPad Pro's USB-C port, it charges fast and with no issues. When I connect the same USB-C cable to the passthrough port on the Magic Keyboard, it charges, but then the screen will randomly blink on and off as the iPad Pro thinks the cable has "disconnected" and then "reconnected".

It still charges, but it's odd and slightly concerning that the iPad Pro thinks the cable is being disconnected and reconnected only when connected through the Magic Keyboard.

Anyone else experiencing something similar?

The iPad Pro Magic Keyboard is directly powered by the attached iPad. The keyboard does not contain a battery.

The Magic Keyboard has a pass-though USB-C socket within the hinge - that permits the iPad to be charged from a connected Power Adapter (charger).
