Macbook air 2017 MagSafe not always lighting up/charging

Hello. I have a MacBook air 2017. When I connect it to the MagSafe adapter that majority of times it doesn't light up. If I go to the system report the Power section says that it's not charging. Sometimes after a couple of minutes it does light up and starts charging but other times it doesn't, so I have to connect and disconnect the MagSafe a couple of times and then it light up. I have tried resetting the SMC but it still happens. I don't know if this means that I have a faulty MagSafe, but I want to solve this as I'm worried that I can damage the charger of the computer.
