Trying to use iMac as a monitor for a Windows laptop

Is there a way of taking an HDMI or DisplayPort output from a Windows 10 laptop and connecting it to a thunderbolt input on a 2011 iMac to enable me to use the iMac as a monitor?

The thunderbolt port does not appear to work with a mini display port input cable (even though it fits) - can I get an adapter so that the iMac thinks it is a thunderbolt type input?
