Changing My Apple ID on my Husband's IPad so he has his own

I bought my husband's IPad under my Apple ID. And so, it always shows up on his IPad with my ID, name, phone #. He does have an Icloud ID for his IPhone. Could someone kindly tell me how i can put his own Apple ID on his IPad so it is totally his? Can i remove my ID, etc... from his IPad without causing any damage to my own acct.? I added his email address and phone # on it but it said it was already in use (I guess because of the IPhone).

Thanks so much. Anita

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. Also set up Family Sharing to keep access to your apps/purchases.
