How can I retrieve deleted email messages in my iCloud account?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Thank you for your response. Apple Support has solved my problem. They explained that I had lost my Trash Mailbox. They restored it for me using the sequence Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Trash Mailbox. Now, I can retrieve deleted email messages.

As I was rereading your post and my reply I realize that I not only misunderstood your post but I also provided incorrect information as I assumed you were asking about retrieving deleted text messages. I apologize.

Restore from a backup when the messages were around.
