This is my first I-Pad. I have no idea how to set it up. An Apple technician walked me through it yesterday.

I thought it was all set up. I could see page of icons. Now today, I can't get into it. It keeps asking me to punch in a code which I had already done yesterday.

This “code” will be the device passcode. The passcode must be entered whenever the iPad locks the screen.

If you iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you’ll need to follow this process:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT211078

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).

You’ll also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

More information about recovery of your AppleID:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201354

More information about recovery of your AppleID password:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201487

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

This is when I wish we could do things in person because it’s so much easier that way.

To set up your device you have your Apple ID and password.

then to access your iPad you have the passcode, which defaults to be 6 numbers.

So your Apple ID is usually marysmith@hotmail.com or equivalent

with the password to that being whatever you set the password to be.

then your passcode is 6 numbers that are used to get into your ipad.

Does any of this make sense?

What is the Device ID password.?The ones I have are the verification code which i tried and

my APPLE ID and the one that has eight characters and number. I tried everything

and it just takes me to "Siri Unavailable, you're not connected to the Internet"

or it will say my IPad is locked and try again later. Bear in mind, I am a senior citizen

and am struggling to learn all this. I've only been using my laptop computer for a

few years and someone talked me into getting an I Pad. I had no idea it was going

to be so confusing. I hate to bother people, but I can't figure it all out.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. But the little box-type keyboard they put up there is nott the same as the

other. How do I put in a Capital letter and the letters, plus numbers. I thought you had to be

on a regular-type keyboard - not the box type that only gives numbers. It won't let me go anyplace else.

The screen just turns dark, etc. My pass word is a name, plus 2 numbers.

The keyboard I'm talking about is not really a keyboard like what you see on a computer. It's a box with numbers on it.

I know how to use that other one. That's how I typed in my password name This one I'm having trouble with is a box. The heading says "Enter pass code." It has circles

with numbers. It does have letters (I made a mistake in saying there were none. )I don't know how to make it switch from

letters to numbers. It's on a colorful page with colorful circles. I'm having trouble staying on that page, (or pulling it up), but I will try again.
