Help....I got a Mac Notebook for my son for college, but we share the same Apple ID account.

How do I get his Mac Notebook to sync to only his phone? We share the same Apple ID account with multiple devices and I can't get the mac to sync to his phone only. It is syncing with my account.

Thanks,

D-

It is normally not advisable for more than one person to use an Apple ID. He can have his own Apple ID and you can still share purchases and selected other things if desired via Family Sharing. Family Sharing - Apple Support

Some other information.

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. As suggested earlier, also set up Family Sharing to keep access to your apps/purchases.
