Deleting Apple ID

Quick question, a friend's son gave my son his old IPad before they moved back to the Philippines. His dad unlocked it and removed the pass code and password lock. He wiped all the photos and messages and factory reset it to stock. My son wants to set up his apple ID on the IPad but it looks like he forgot to delete the apple id for his son. I have contacted the family but the wife doesn't know the password as it was set up by her husband. He is currently deployed and unavailable by direct call. The wife will ask him when she gets a chance. Just wanted to see of there was a way to just delete the apple ID now? If not i will just have to wait for him to send it to me.

Also will it make a difference if he sets up a separate Apple ID on the same IPad and just uses that one? I wouldn't want anyone to be able to make purchases or have access to his IPad. Thanks in advance.

You will need to wait for the password so you can sign out of the old ID. To avoid making things more complicated, I suggest you get that done before attempting to make any other changes. If you want a separate Apple ID for your son

If 13 years old or older.
