You cannot have a "full" backup on iCloud, but you can backup some things. In System Preferences you can go to iCloud, then where it says iCloud Drive click 'options' and enable everything.
Again, you cannot have a "full" system backup on iCloud, for that you need to follow the instructions Grant gave you.
