An incoming iMessage appears to have covered (please not deleted) all previous messages from sending. The messages from sender now come in with a moonlike character next to senders name. How can I restore previous messages?

SMS and iMessage notifications settings are not different. However. please check if you have enabled Hide Alerts for a specific message thread.

Thank you. I did go in to see that hide alerts was on (not sure why I was getting all messages previously). Unfortunately, it did not automatically show the past messages.
