How can I see messages sent to my iCloud email on my phone?

When I got a new iPhone a few months ago and suddenly the text messages I sent from my phone showed up to recipients as being from my iCloud email address. I changed a setting on the phone so that messages would just be from my phone, but people apparently send me messages by replying to those old messages sent from my iCloud email address, but I don't see those and don't understand where they go. How can I get them to go to my phone? And how can I see the ones I have missed? Thanks for your help.

If you go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, all the options under 'You Can Receive iMessages to and Reply From' should be checked. In the section that says 'Start New Conversations From', this is probably what you changed before, you'd likely want the phone number checked.

I'm not sure if you'll see the messages that you missed or not.
